Better Together: Antioxidants Resveratrol and Curcumin

Protecting cells from oxidative stress is one of the best ways to support overall health and well-being. Getting enough antioxidants from food and supplements can help ensure we have the potent nutrients we need to fight free radicals and harmful pathogens.

What is curcumin?

What is resveratrol? 

Resveratrol is a polyphenol antioxidant. That means it’s produced naturally by plants and acts as a defense mechanism against environmental stressors.4 This includes issues such as UV rays, periods of drought, pathogens, and more. As it turns out, these polyphenols are not only good for plants but people too. 

Resveratrol is most notably found in the skin of red grapes and in dark chocolate. So yes – you can find resveratrol in wine and your favorite sweet treat! That doesn’t mean overindulging in wine and chocolate will help you get enough resveratrol. The good news is it is also found in peanuts, mulberries, cranberries, pistachios, blueberries, plums, and other plants. 

The Japanese knotweed root is an excellent source of resveratrol. Native to Eastern Japan, China and Korea, this plant has been used for centuries for wellness, where the whole flowering plant is useful. In addition, Japanese knotweed root contains high concentrations of trans-resveratrol – the most effective, most active, and most-studied form of the antioxidant. 

Resveratrol is a powerful nutrient that supports cardiovascular health, blood sugar metabolism, heart health, skin health and more.*5 If you aren’t eating enough foods rich in resveratrol, a supplement may help.
